Overview
vaultsuite.dev is a managed hosting platform for CryptPad — the open-source, end-to-end encrypted collaboration suite. We give you your own dedicated CryptPad instance running in an isolated container, so you get the privacy of self-hosting without the operations burden.
What is CryptPad?
CryptPad is a free, open-source collaboration platform that includes:
- Rich text editor — collaborative documents with real-time editing
- Spreadsheets — collaborative spreadsheets and charts
- Code editor — collaborative code editing with syntax highlighting
- Kanban boards — project management with drag-and-drop cards
- Whiteboards — collaborative drawing and diagramming
- Forms — create surveys and polls
- File drive — organize all your documents in folders
Everything is end-to-end encrypted. Your encryption keys never leave your browser — we physically cannot read your documents, even if compelled by law.
Who is VaultSuite for?
- Privacy-conscious teams who want the convenience of SaaS without surrendering their data to Big Tech.
- Organizations subject to GDPR or other data-residency requirements. All data stays in the EU.
- Small businesses and nonprofits who need secure collaboration but can't afford a dedicated sysadmin.
- Individuals who want a private, ad-free, tracking-free workspace for their documents.
How is this different from cryptpad.fr?
cryptpad.fr is the official hosted instance run by the CryptPad team. It's excellent — but it's a shared instance where your data lives alongside thousands of other users.
VaultSuite gives you a dedicated instance running in its own isolated container on Fly.io. You get:
- Your own resources (CPU, RAM, storage) — no noisy neighbors
- Your own address (
your-name.vaultsuite.dev) - Automated daily backups (14-day retention)
- Dedicated performance — your instance serves only you
How is this different from self-hosting?
You can absolutely self-host CryptPad yourself — it's open-source under AGPL. But self-hosting means:
- Setting up and maintaining a server
- Handling TLS certificates, DNS, firewalls
- Running backups and testing restores
- Applying security updates when CryptPad releases them
- Monitoring uptime and responding to incidents
VaultSuite handles all of that for you. You focus on your work; we handle the infrastructure. Our scale-to-zero architecture also means you pay only for what you use — often cheaper than running your own server.
Where is my data?
Your documents and your CryptPad instance are stored in the European Union (Amsterdam, Netherlands) — Fly.io's EU region for compute and storage — and never leave it. We are finalizing our formal GDPR compliance program; the only data processed by non-EU subprocessors is operational metadata (your email, payments), covered by EU Standard Contractual Clauses. See our subprocessor list.
See our Security page for details on encryption, backups, and incident response.
